Raleigh – North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Goodwin released the following statement after President Trump selected Judge Brett Kavanaugh as his nominee to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court:

“Judge Kavanaugh has a long legal history that puts him squarely at odds with the well-being of millions of North Carolinians, especially women and people of color. His opinions signal he would threaten a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions by overturning Roe v. Wade and gut the law that helps hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians, including those with preexisting conditions, access affordable care. Still other opinions have signaled renewed threats to voting rights, civil rights, and workers’ rights that will harm immigrants, LGBTQ North Carolinians, and people of color while protecting wealthy corporations and polluters. North Carolina Democrats stand united against these and future threats to marginalized people across our state and call on every North Carolinian worried about how a far-right court will hurt our state to get involved, call your U.S. senator, and vote in November.”
